A NEW STANDARD FOR PLAYER DEVELOPMENT IN SASKATOON
Most clubs group players by age and hope development takes care of itself. Atletico Saskatoon does something different: a complete, purpose-built Pathway that meets every player exactly where they are physically, technically, and mentally and guides them, stage by stage, toward their full potential.
This isn't a curriculum borrowed from somewhere else. It's a system built from the ground up by our own coaching staff, designed specifically for how young players actually grow.
The Atletico Saskatoon Player Development Pathway is a progressive and holistic development system designed to accompany players through the different stages of physical, technical, cognitive, social, and football development.
Players are not defined only by age. Each stage represents a specific learning environment, with development priorities appropriate to the player's stage of growth.

STAGE 01 — EXPLORE
2020-2021 | Build the Athlete
Move • Explore • Play
EXPLORE is the entry point into the Pathway. Children discover the game through movement, exploration, play, and social interaction , building physical literacy, confidence, coordination, and a love for the ball. The goal isn't technical perfection; it's confident, curious, engaged kids excited to come back to the field.
Development Question: Can I move, explore and participate confidently?

STAGE 02 — DISCOVER
2018-2019 | Build the Player
Explore • Express • React
DISCOVER is the shift from free play toward intentional soccer learning. Players build real technical foundations while starting to understand the relationships between ball, space, teammates, and opponents, learning to recognize simple game situations and find their own solutions.
Development Question: Can I use my movement and technical tools to recognize and solve simple game situations?

STAGE 03 — IGNITE
2015-2017 | Build the Intelligent Player
Experiment • Decide • Adapt
IGNITE is the Golden Development Stage of the Atletico pathway, a high-enrichment environment where technique, movement, communication, and decision-making become interconnected. Players learn not just how to play an action, but why, when, where, and how quickly.
Development Question: Can I read the environment, identify solutions and make purposeful decisions at game speed?

STAGE 04 — PERFORM
2013-2014 | Build the Competitor
Compete • Adapt • Influence
PERFORM turns knowledge into consistent performance under real competitive demands. Players process information faster, execute under pressure, and take greater responsibility for their contribution , moving from understanding the game toward learning how to influence it.
Development Question: Can I adapt my actions and influence the game under competitive pressure?

STAGE 05 — MASTER
2009-2012 | Build the Complete Player
Perform • Lead • Master
MASTER is the most advanced stage of the Pathway. Development becomes individualized and position-specific. Players understand their own needs, manage their preparation, and contribute to the team at the highest level. Mastery doesn't mean development is complete , it means the player owns it.
Development Question: Can I understand, manage and take responsibility for my performance while positively influencing the team?
